The working principle of the Roots fan

The working process of the Roots fan is that there are two “8” shaped rotors in the cylinder, on both sides of the cylinder. There are inhalation orifices and discharge orifices. Through the role of a pair of synchronized gears, so that the two rotors for the opposite direction of rotation. And rely on the mutual meshing of the two rotors, so that the inhalation orifice and the discharge orifice are isolated from each other, and push the cylinder volume of gas, to achieve the purpose of blowing.

The theoretical compression process of a Roots blower is isovolumetric, so its power consumption is greater than that of other volumetric compressors. When the pressure is relatively high, the Roots blower loses its practical significance due to the uneconomical constant volume compression and the increased leakage through the gap at the joints. Therefore, Roots blowers are only suitable for blowing gases in the low pressure ratio range. The maximum pressure ratio of one stage is 1.8, and two-stage Roots blowers with intermediate cooling can have a pressure ratio of up to 2.5.

As can be seen from the working principle of the Roots blower, it is a type of volumetric blower, which is characterized by the gas flow produced is close to a constant, and the pressure can be adjusted within a certain range according to user requirements.
