Introduction to the working principle and applications of Roots vacuum pumps

The Roots vacuum pump is a centrifugal, oil-free pulsating vacuum pump that works as follows:

  1. Structural composition: Roots vacuum pump consists of two mutually meshing rotating impellers (called Roots impeller) and the shell. The two impellers are driven by synchronized gears, rotating relative to each other but not in direct contact. A series of continuous working chambers are formed between the inlet and outlet of the pump.
  2. Suction process: When the Roots impeller rotates, the cavity produces a breathing volume change, so that the gas is sucked into the working cavity. Due to the meshing of the two impellers, the gas is gradually compressed, forming a high pressure at the inlet end of the pump.
  3. Discharge process: With the rotation of the Roots impeller, the already compressed gas is pushed from the working chamber to the outlet of the pump. At the outlet end of the pump, the gas is discharged, creating a lower pressure.
  4. Cyclic operation: The working process of Roots vacuum pump is a continuous cycle, moving gas from low-pressure area to high-pressure area through constant suction and exhaust to realize the purpose of vacuum extraction.
